What We Believe

God

We believe in one God, made known to humans in three forms  the Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer.  (Also known as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.) We believe that God is love. We believe that God does not have one gender, but many ways in which we come to know and be in relationship with God.

Jesus

We believe that Jesus is Immanuel  "God with us." We believe that God became human in Jesus Christ to show the world the depth of God's love, to challenge systems that hurt people, and walk in our shoes. We believe that Christ's death and resurrection saves us through showing us that we are never alone in our suffering, that there is nothing so awful in our experience that God is not there, and that love will always triumph over pain and suffering. We strive to follow the teachings of Jesus in all facets of our lives.

The Bible

We believe that the bible is a book of sacred stories, the word of God. These stories are the key vehicle by which we know the stories of our faith and the love that God has for all people. We read the bible through four different lenses: devotional/spiritual, historical, literary, and Lutheran.

Humanity

We believe that God loves every single one of God's children. No. Matter. What. We believe that this love sets us free to think outside of ourselves, to let go of our own striving and let God come to us. We believe that our faith is at its best when we're building relationship with and serving our neighbors.

What are Lutherans?

Lutherans are Christians who follow the teachings and theology of Martin Luther, a German Christian, teacher, leader, and former monk of the order of St. Augustine, who lived in the 1500's.
